How often are backups accomplished?
Complete backups of domain and user files are done weekly. Critical
system configuration files and mail spool files are backed up twice
daily.
My customer deleted a file? How can I get that file restored?
Send restoration requests to sales.
Note that there is a $100 service charge per restoration for restorations
not necessitated by fault of Colossus.
How do I change the test
page created for new domains?
Edit /www/conf/default.index.html.
How do I change the root password for my server?
Telnet to your server, then:
su -
ck_passwd $passwd # where $passwd is the password you wish to use
passwd
For example:
yellow:/tmp# su -
yellow:/tmp# ck_passwd mygooddog
yellow:/tmp# Bad Password: goddoogym is based on a dictionary word:
goddo ! yellow:/tmp# ck_passwd mybigdog
yellow:/tmp#
yellow:/tmp# passwd
In the above example, 'mygooddog' is shown to be an insecure password
and should not be used; whereas, 'mybigdog' cannot be cracked and
is thus secure and can be used as the new root password.
Note that you should always inform support
of your new root password when you change it.
Where is the compiler on my server?
For security reasons, a compiler is not installed by default on
dedicated servers (should a hacker gain access to a server, his
powers are greatly enhanced by the presence of a compiler). If you
need a compiler, you should post to support
and ask that the gcc compiler be installed on your server.
